About Us
Although Urology and Nephrology have traditionally been categorized as surgical and medical specialties, respectively, the organs, diseases, and research topics they address are highly interconnected. In modern medicine, interdisciplinary collaboration has become increasingly important for advancing both clinical practice and scientific research. Furthermore, the Departments of Urology and Nephrology at Taipei Medical University’s three affiliated hospitals have gradually developed into mature and well-established specialties. By integrating the expertise, manpower, and resources of these institutions, we aim to create synergies that exceed the sum of individual efforts, expand emerging research areas, enhance research quality, and develop distinctive medical and research strengths.
Through the establishment of the Research Center of Urology and Kidney (RCUK), Taipei Medical University seeks to foster a collaborative research environment comparable to leading international institutions such as the Glickman Urological & Kidney Institute at Cleveland Clinic, which is widely recognized as one of the foremost centers in the fields of urology and nephrology.
In alignment with Taipei Medical University’s strategic research initiatives and commitment to strengthening research capacity, the Research Center of Urology and Kidney (RCUK) was established to integrate the existing disciplines of urology and nephrology. In addition to specialists from these two core disciplines, the Center actively collaborates with experts from the fields of nursing, public health, pharmacy, nutrition, health information management, and biomedical engineering.
The Center’s major research focuses include endourology and urinary stone disease, genitourinary cancers, advanced urological surgery, kidney transplantation, acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, and critical kidney disorders. Through interdisciplinary and interprofessional collaboration, RCUK aims to promote innovative research, facilitate translational medicine, strengthen academic excellence, and ultimately improve patient care and healthcare outcomes.
By integrating clinical practice, scientific research, and educational resources across the university and its affiliated hospitals, RCUK is committed to becoming a leading research center in urology and nephrology both nationally and internationally.
